The Research Office at Birkbeck provides administrative, financial and support services relating to externally funded research grants and contracts, and consultancy activities.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Research Support Officer (Global Challenges Research Fund) to join our team. The post holder will provide thorough and knowledgeable guidance on all aspects of GCRF programmes, including research funding opportunities, due diligence processes and monitoring of ODA (Overseas Development Assistance) compliance.
The Research Support Officer (GCRF) will also be responsible for their own portfolio of academic departments, dealing with the full range of funding bodies, including the Research Councils, charities, government departments, non-UK funding bodies and industrial clients.
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of research grant funding in the UK, good knowledge of the GCRF funding and applications process, and a track record of successfully working with academic colleagues to support the development and submission of proposals. Liaison with research funding bodies, partner organisations, academics and administrators across Birkbeck is a key part of the job.
In addition it is desirable that candidates have experience of working in the higher education sector and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of current national and UK research funders’ policies, including open access, research impact and research data management.

This is a fixed term appointment for 3 years.
Remuneration
Grade 7 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is £37,912 rising incrementally to £43,333 per annum.
The salary quoted is on the College’s London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area.
