Person Specification
The post holder will be an experienced, highly motivated professional with a strong background in Higher Education administration and management. You will be primarily responsible for the development and implementation of BIMM Institute’s quality assurance policies and activites across all BIMM Institute colleges, working closely with the Academic Registrar, and ensuring that all provision across Further and Higher Education is developed and delivered in accordance with sector frameworks and the requirements of validating partners and awarding bodies. A key part of the role will be monitoring and reporting on the maintenance of academic standards and the enhancement of the learning opportunities available to students across all existing BIMM Institute colleges, including performance against academic KPIs in retention, achievement, success and student satisfaction, and as such you will chair the Quality Assurance & Compliance Committee. You will manage BIMM Institute’s engagement with the National Student Survey in England and provide reports on the outcomes to the Academic Board and the Executive Management Group. You will lead on preparations for all internal and external quality assurance engagements, including those by awarding partners/bodies and external agencies.
The post holder must be a team player who is used to working to tight deadlines and ensuring that staff and students alike are able to meet exacting standards of educational excellence.
Essential Criteria for Applicant
• Qualified to undergraduate degree level.
• At least three years’ experience of Higher Education administration and/or management in quality assurance or course administration.
• Experience of working within an HE collaborative partnership (validated or franchised provision).
• Understanding and experience of Higher Education quality assurance frameworks.
• Experience of Quality Assurance Agency review methodologies.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
• Excellent level of IT skills.
Desirable Criteria for Applicant
• Experience of administration or management of the National Student Survey.
• Experience of Further Education quality assurance frameworks.
• Experience of chairing committee meetings.
• Qualified to postgraduate level.
Key Accountabilities
1. Lead the development, implementation and review of the BIMM Institute Quality Assurance & Enhancement Policy and the annual cycle of quality assurance activities.
2. Chair the Quality Assurance & Compliance Committee and ensure that its business is conducted in accordance with approved processes and the annual cycle of business.
3. Manage the annual course review process and ensure they are completed, approved internally, and submitted to validating universties if appropriate, on time and in the appropriate format.
4. Manage the annual programme of Student Experience Reviews and other internal quality assurance events including the allocation and briefing of panels and the production of guidance, the provision of secretarial support, and the timely production of reports.
5. Lead on the preparations for and the management of all external quality review processes including the drafting of primary documentation and evidence.
6. Lead on internal and external student satisfaction surveys, including the National Student Survey in England, and collate and report on outcomes to the Academic Board and the Executive Management Group.
7. Lead on the collation and reporting against Academic Key Performance Indicators as agreed by the BIMM Institute Executive Management Team and the Academic Board, including in-year retention and achievement/success and student satisfaction data across all colleges.
8. Manage the collation of and reporting on the implementation of action plans arising from internal and external quality assurance reviews and student satisfaction surveys.
9. Liaise with academic partners’ Partnership/Quality Offices on a day-to-day basis on all quality assurance matters and ensure effective communication between the academic partners and the colleges.
10. Line manage the Quality Assurance Officer.
