We are seeking five advisors to join the British Council Education Advisory Group (EAG).

The role of the EAG is to advise the Education leadership team and influence how the British Council’s vision and strategy are developed. As a member, you will contribute to fulfil the group’s purpose and objectives as outlined in the Terms of Reference.

Key focus areas of the post include:

  • Participating in Education Advisory Group meetings, normally three per year;
  • Contributing to fulfil the Group’s purpose and objectives as outlined in the Terms of Reference;
  • Advising on our strategic direction and approach;
  • Supporting our objective of embedding EDI into all areas of our work;
  • Acting as advocates for the British Council’s work undertaken in the UK and globally;
  • Keeping the British Council abreast of major developments in the Education sector;
  • Serving as a channel of professional advice within his/her own area of expertise;
  • Identifying new opportunities and trends;
  • Creating links between the British Council and the communities within the Education sector for whom our work has particular relevance.

The successful candidate must have:

  • A commitment to the mission of the British Council to create a friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and wider world;
  • Significant recent experience of the Education sector, particularly in the area(s) of Schools, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Higher Education (HE) or Science, domestically and/or internationally;
  • A track record of working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written);
  • The right to work in the UK.

It is also desirable that the successful candidate has:

  • Experience and expertise in international cultural relations;
  • Experience of one or more of the following areas in relation to Education: implementation of education system reforms; the role of technology; digital teaching and learning; professional development for educators; widening participation; social mobility; gender and equality; inclusive education; anti-racism;
  • An understanding and knowledge of one or more of the main geographical regions in which the British Council works;
  • The ability to represent the Education sector from the perspective of one of the three devolved UK nations: Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
