The University of Manchester has a rich heritage of discovery, social change and a pioneering spirit which has been at the heart of what we do since 1824. When you join our University, you become part of a truly diverse and international community of staff and students all focused on ensuring we are recognised locally and globally for the excellence of our people, research, learning and innovation, and for the benefits we bring to society. Social responsibility and civic engagement are central to The University of Manchester’s vision and strategic plan Our Future and you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our strong reputation for impact in these areas. This includes being one of the world’s leading institutions for social, environmental and economic impact as measured by the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking.
As the Head of Social Responsibility and Civic Engagement you will make a significant contribution to the ongoing development and implementation of strategy. With substantial experience of stakeholder engagement you will bring innovation and creativity to the development, design, implementation and evaluation of key priorities, with a particular focus on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and civic engagement work across the Greater Manchester city-region.
With high-level communication and interpersonal skills you will be confident in co-developing strategies with the University’s community of academic and professional staff, students, alumni and external stakeholders. You will have the intellectual ability to engage senior colleagues and understand the wider political and economic context for social responsibility and civic engagement activity in higher education. You will act at all times in line with our values, with an emphasis on equality, diversity and inclusion and environmental sustainability.
In such a multi-layered, multi-faceted and multi-stakeholder setting, key to your success will be your professional judgement, insight and ability to influence outcomes and direction.
