The University of Surrey Students’ Union has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Activities Manager. Student activity covers a wide range of student-led initiatives, governed through the Activity Zone which is headed by our Vice President Activity. The Student Activities Manager is the lead member of staff, working closely with the VP, zone committee and staff team to develop student activities to give students the best possible experience. This includes providing support, advice and development opportunities for clubs and societies with an emphasis on increasing participation, developing new activity opportunities and ensuring there is no barrier to students’ involvement. One main initiative within the zone covers Employable Me activities, which help students understand how getting involved increases their employability.
The successful candidate must have:
- Previous line/supervisory experience with the ability to motivate and lead a staff team
- Proven experience in developing, managing and monitoring budgets
- Solid knowledge of legal restraints, particularly health and safety legislation and government policy that affects student activities
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Systematic and logical thinker with good vision and foresight
- Proven ability to effectively manage a varied and demanding workload
- Knowledge and understanding of student activities and student development
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change
- An understanding of University representative sport, particularly BUCS, would be desirable
