We are looking for an exceptional individual who can play a leading role in delivering our new institutional Citizen Student Strategy. If you are an experienced leader in higher or further education who is passionate about student opportunity, employability and inclusion, then we would like to hear from you.

The new Director of Access, Skills and Apprenticeships will lead a Directorate of over 50 staff across the areas of access, outreach and participation; academic skills development; careers and employability and apprenticeship delivery.

You will be responsible for strategic oversight of the University’s investment in its Student Access and Participation Plan, totalling over £6.8m in 2020/21, and will act as a deputy to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) with the opportunity to shape, influence and implement strategic change across all aspects of the student experience. You will also work closely with the Vice-Chancellor, other members of the University’s senior team and the institutional governing body (Council).

You will bring extensive leadership and management experience in one or more of the professional areas covered by the Directorate, including experience in the areas of employability and apprenticeship delivery. You will have expert knowledge of current sector issues and best practice in relation to access, participation and inclusion. You will also be a confident communicator with proven experience of devising and delivering impactful strategy, including a strong track record of successful project and programme delivery.

An Undergraduate degree (or equivalent professional qualification), and a Higher degree in a relevant professional specialism (or equivalent evidence of significant and continuing professional development) are essential.

You will be based primarily at the University’s Exton Park site in Chester but with opportunities for flexible and remote working, alongside regular travel to other University sites including Shrewsbury and Warrington.
