The University of Portsmouth Students’ Union is a vibrant, forward-thinking organisation with a vision of “delivering a positive impact with every Portsmouth student”. As a charity led by its values and guided by its students, the Union provides wide-ranging services and activities for the 20,000 + students of the University of Portsmouth. The Union is based in the centre of Portsmouth and turns over £1.7M per annum, employing approximately 35 career staff and a further 35 student staff. The organisation also works with over 1000 registered student volunteers and over 100 student groups.

The Post:

  • Support, develop and coordinate the Course Representative system, providing our volunteers with training and skills development opportunities
  • Responsible for helping to interpret student feedback and write reports to influence Union work and the work of our key partners
  • Facilitate and ensure all officers are elected/selected fairly and democratically, whilst offering guidance on campaigns and manifestos to all elected officers and any agreed student led campaigns
  • Ensure that the student voice has an influence both within the University and the Union
  • Develop inspirational training to support Union representatives (including Course Reps and Elected Officers).

The Person:

  • Experience of leading and managing projects and the ability to handle competing priorities
  • Experience supporting and motivating people as well as delivering inspiring training programmes
  • Experience of developing and increasing participation and able to demonstrate the skills necessary to develop new initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to undertake and present research and analyse data
  • An understanding of best practice in supporting Union representatives
  • An understanding of the complex issues faced by students in a Higher Education setting is essential
