Director of Communications and External Relations

Expires

9th May 2022

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations, and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

The Director of Communications and External Relations is a newly created role to increase LSTM’s national and international profile and to enhance communication across all areas of the organisation. This is a senior leadership role, reporting directly to the Director with principal responsibility for managing the global reputation of the instituion.

As Director you will develop LSTM’s communications and external relations strategy and services to achieve the strategic goals of the institution. You will lead multidisciplinary teams in the development and delivery of a range of communications, brand marketing and public affairs activities and you will work closely with the Dean of Education to support student recruitment activties, to ensure a joined-up approach which maximises all opportunties.

You will bring experience of working at a senior level within Communications/External Relations, for a mission driven, complex organisation with an international outlook and you will have a track record of successfully developing and delivering an international communications strategy.

This is an exciting time to join LSTM, we are celebrating our 125-year anniversary and we are making significant investments in our education portfolio, both in Liverpool and Malawi. We are also undertaking a strategic review, which means the incoming Dean of Education will have the opportunity to influence the future of LSTM for generations to come.

Inclusion is central to our values at LSTM. We seek to attract and recruit people who reflect the diversity across our communities, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, nationality, faith or belief, social background, age, and disability. LSTM selects candidates based on skills, qualifications, and experience.

We welcome conversations about flexible working; and applications from those returning to employment after a break from their careers.
