Director of Academic Quality

Expires

3rd April 2022

Ref: R220185

At Aston University, we are committed to offering our students a high-quality learning experience which incorporates our widely recognised work-placement programme. Our mission is to be one of the UK’s leading universities for students aspiring to succeed in business and the professions, where original research, enterprise and inspiring learning and teaching deliver local and global impact. We have long-standing strengths in graduate outcomes and the delivery of high quality, research-informed teaching; together with a strong commitment to reducing the BAME attainment gap and enabling all learners to achieve their full academic potential. Aston’s new ‘Education Strategy’ will see us building ambitiously on these strengths, and we take pride in our agility, innovation and team working.

We are seeking a new Director of Academic Quality who will be responsible and accountable for leading and managing the operationalisation of all activities relating to academic quality assurance and enhancement at the University. This is a senior leadership and management position within an established central department, and provides the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution and externally to deliver best practice. We seek not only to be compliant with relevant external regulatory requirements, but to lead the sector in our approach to quality assurance and enhancement. You will horizon scan and keep abreast of sector practice and any changes to external regulatory requirements so as to ensure that the University remains compliant and able to contribute to sector developments as appropriate.

You will have a strong track record of effectively leading and implementing quality assurance and quality enhancement at institutional level within a Higher Education Provider, together with significant experience of successfully leading and managing teams. You will have in-depth knowledge of the QAA’s UK Quality Code for Higher Education, OfS Conditions of Registration, CMA requirements in relation to Higher Education Providers, and a thorough, demonstrable understanding of the wider, external quality debate in higher education. Strong inter-personal and communication skills are essential for this role, as is the ability to multi-task and effectively lead, manage, and develop a team that is outward-looking and collaborative within the University and externally.
