Who We Are:

Cardiff Met Students’ Union (SU) is a student membership organisation that represents over 12,000 students. We aim to support and empower our students by representing their views and providing a range of services, events and activities to enhance the university experience.

Cardiff Met SU is seeking to recruit a full time Student Voice & Democracy Coordinator to join student engagement team at the SU. We are passionate about making our teams representative of the students we support and the communities we operate within. We therefore especially welcome applications from candidates typically underrepresented in leadership roles.

Role Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to be part of passionate and progressive team looking to make a real difference for students at Cardiff Met. This role will take a proactive approach to student voice and democracy as we look to further strengthen our offering to members. This role will support the SU Rep system and the student leadership teams to identify key issues and trends and to facilitate their resolution with the University.

Cardiff Met SU is the representative voice of students, and this role will support the delivery of all areas of voice and democracy, This includes the SU Elections, supporting the SU Sabbatical Officers, recruiting and training over 400 students involved at all levels of the SU Rep Structure and furthering awareness amongst the student body of the role of the SU and student voice mechanisms.

We are looking for a team player who is highly motivated and passionate about delivering change at a democratic organisation. The successful candidate will be able to work with a range of stakeholders across the SU and University, will have an interest in democratic procedures and processes and possess great communication skills. They will also be able to show a commitment to equality and diversity, have the ability to handle sensitive situations and a genuine desire to work on behalf of students.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the election, training, and coordination of the SU Course Reps.
  • Centralise student feedback from a range of sources and support the SU’s elected officers by providing up to date data and insights into student views and opinions.
  • Support and develop an appropriate structure for the SU’s academic representation to ensure effective attendance at University Boards, Committees, and meetings.
  • Liaise with Cardiff Met’s academic schools and key professional services to act on student feedback.
  • Support the wider SU staff teams by providing appropriate feedback on their areas to ensure constant development across the SU.
  • Support the delivery of the SU’s elections process to democratically elect the SU’s Sabbatical Officer team.
  • Support the recruitment and training of the SU School Rep and SU Part-Time Officer teams.
  • Deliver the SU’s Student Led Teaching Awards.
  • Coordinate links with student voice functions at Further Education and Transnational Education partners.
  • Deliver the SU’s annual Partner Conference.
  • Provide analytics, support, encouragement and advice on all areas of the SU’s student voice and democracy work to encourage greater member involvement in Union democracy, especially from underrepresented groups.
  • Ensure the SU website and other web-based and physical resources dedicated to student voice and democracy are up to date, accurate and relevant to students.

Desirable:

  • Experience of coordinating training events
  • Experience working in a Higher Education, Students’ Union, or Third Sector organisation
  • Knowledge of Students’ Unions in relation to relevant legislation and frameworks: Charity law, Education Act. Data protection, UK Quality Code for Higher Education
  • Qualified to graduate or equivalent level or have relevant experience within Higher Education or related office or administrative environment
