We are looking for a self-motivated individual that enjoys a challenge and an agile working environment.

In 2022 the new Representation team has seen significant investment and has been transformed to create a stronger representation structure between UPSU and the University, ensuring our representatives are supported to develop key life and career skills and are empowered to change and shape the student experience through our ground-breaking co-creation activity. The successful post holder will be an experienced line manager, demonstrate strong project management skills and be confident in shaping the Union’s strategic direction.

The Post
The Representation Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Union’s Representation function including physical and digital delivery. The post holder will oversee and support the management of three coordinators to deliver the Union’s core representation and democratic activity. This includes responsibility for the delivery of the Course Rep system (in partnership with the institution), democratic processes including the Have Your Say democracy platform, the Union’s elections and supporting elected representatives. The post holder will also drive the Unions Quality Assurance and Co-Creation work supporting the student reps and Elected Officers to highlight key issues and work with courses and departments to deliver co-collaborative enhancement projects. The post holder will also help shape the future of the Unions Representation work and be part of the organisation’s strategic development.

The Person
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, inspirational individual who is passionate about delivering an excellent student centred service. The post-holder will have experience of leading and managing projects and supporting, motivating and training people. Line management experience is preferred, however we welcome applications from those who have transferable experience from managing volunteers or ad-hoc staff. The post holder will have experience of developing and increasing participation and will demonstrate the skills necessary to develop new initiatives. In addition, the post-holder will have excellent communication skills, an understanding of best practice in supporting Union representatives, the skills to undertake and present research, analyse data and have the ability to handle competing priorities. An understanding of the complex issues faced by students in a Higher Education setting is essential.

The University of Portsmouth Students’ Union is a vibrant, forward thinking organisation with a vision of “delivering a positive impact with every Portsmouth student”. As a charity led by its values and guided by its students, the Union provides wide-ranging services and activities for the 20,000 + students of the University of Portsmouth. The Union is based in the centre of Portsmouth and turns over £1.7M per annum, employing approximately 35 career staff and nearly 100 student staff. The organisation also works with over 1000 registered student volunteers and over 100 student groups.
