This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting and championing the diverse voices of students to make a meaningful change within their student experience through a range of processes. We are looking for experienced applicants with a background of working with a diverse range of students in Higher Education, and a fantastic understanding of the principles of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion to lead the delivery of this work for the Students’ Union.

About the role

As Change & Inclusion Manager within the Students’ Union you will:

  • be responsible for managing, developing and delivering innovative strategies across the SU to ensure that the views of our diverse community are effectively represented and used to deliver change and build communities.
  • oversee permanent and student staff members and direct their work.
  • delivering a range of effective engagement activities designed to help us be the experts on student opinion.
  • provide a range of support and advice to empower and inform Students, Representatives, Officers, and Staff to successfully deliver change through representational and campaigning activities. This may take the form of providing briefings, writing reports or papers for committees, undertaking or analysing research, providing training or writing effective communications.
  • This role has oversight of a number of our political activities including supporting our Student Officers in delivering their manifesto aims, supporting the development and delivery of priority and emerging issues, supporting and empowering our student communities to run campaigns and take action on the issues that students care most about. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of how to navigate sensitive political issues and an awareness of national and local policies that affect both issues and process.

About you

We are seeking a candidate who is a confident and experienced communicator, with great people skills, the ability to build relationships with stakeholders and a willingness to get ‘stuck in’. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a passion and creativity in relation to student representation and engagement, excellent management skills – both in terms of people and in developing and delivering on strategic planning, the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively within a team. You will also have a strong appreciation for the value of change-making campaigns and the importance of democracy in a member-led organisation.

This role is within the Voice team of the Students’ Union, which means you will work closely with student representatives and officers to champion the diverse voices of our student community, with an aim to positively impact the student experience for students from all backgrounds – making the University a more inclusive place. Being a manager as part of the Voice team is an exciting, dynamic, and uniquely rewarding experience.
