We are looking for an exceptional person to lead our new research advocacy team.

The University of Nottingham is one of the UK’s leading research intensive universities, ranking seventh for research power in the 2021 Research Evaluation Framework. Last year the University secured its largest ever award, £29.1 million, for a new MRI national facility. The University’s 2022 Research Strategy builds on this success, and this new team is an important element is part of that Strategy, strengthening the way we advocate for our research funding and reputational priorities.

With your team you will develop advocacy strategies for these priorities, working collaboratively across the University to design and deliver them. You will work with our world leading researchers; with our experts in communications, digital, alumni relations and research funding; with senor leaders across the University as well as members of Council and key alumni. And you will build strong networks with external partners – funders, charities, businesses, policymakers – to build our reputation and secure our objectives.

You will be someone who thinks strategically and systematically. You will be comfortable working with researchers from across all disciplines. You will be a great networker and alliance builder, inspiring people across the University and beyond to work to shared objectives. You will be energetic and excited to have the opportunity to build your own team and way of working, thinking innovatively and creatively about how to do it, and able develop virtual project teams with partners across the University. You will be comfortable networking and a great stakeholder manager and be able rapidly to secure the confidence of senior leaders and researchers across the University.

You will have a track record in some – and perhaps all – of working in higher education and particularly research funding; of building targeted, strategic campaigns and the use of channels and techniques in marketing, advocacy and/or communications; of working with senior leaders in government, business and/or the third sector.

At the University of Nottingham, we aim to give you all the support you need to nurture your talent, develop and reach your professional and personal career goals. We are committed to providing competitive employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential.
