As we look ahead to 2031, when our University will celebrate 150 years of creativity, innovation and global impact, we are now seeking to appoint an exceptional Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor who will work with our new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Jones, in delivering an ambitious strategy for the University and one that takes us beyond 2031 and into the next decade.
Since 1881, our mission has been the advancement of learning and the ennoblement of life. The opportunity to further this aim now, with our teaching and research already transforming lives in our renowned home city and around the world, has never been greater. Outward-looking, pioneering, welcoming, diverse and inclusive, we are at the heart of the city region’s ambitions, which will bring the University’s research in areas including advanced materials, digital, health and sustainability to the fore. But our reach is without borders; we work with industry and academia nationally and internationally to make new discoveries and help solve society’s global challenges.
The Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor role is new at the University and the successful candidate will provide leadership for strategic planning, the annual resourcing and budgeting process, and for monitoring academic performance across the three Faculties. The Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor will also provide leadership for capital and digital planning and prioritisation, ensuring it is fully aligned with the ambitions of the new University strategy. Additionally, the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor will also lead major institutional projects and will deputise for the Vice-Chancellor as required, representing them both internally and externally.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an inspirational and energetic leader, with an accomplished track record of academic excellence and sustained senior executive leadership in a comparably large and complex institution. The successful candidate will have demonstrated significant experience of resource management at scale, an inclusive and collaborative approach to leadership, an ability to work at pace and thrive in a dynamic environment, and experience of building relationships both internally and externally.
