The opportunity
The Senior Quality Officer will play an integral role in managing the University’s engagement with a developing external policy context at a time of rapid sectoral change. The postholder will be the main point of contact for sector quality bodies including the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) (as this relates to quality matters), the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs). They will manage University engagement in external quality reviews and stay abreast of key quality reference points, such as the Quality Code. They will work closely with the Head of Quality Enhancement and Collaborative Provision Specialist to make a major contribution to all externally focused quality assurance documentation and reports. They will lead the compilation of the University’s annual assurance reports to the Board of Governors and ensure the University’s adherence to the Quality Assessment Framework for Wales.
Lead on the co-ordination, collation of evidence and drafting of the University’s Annual Assurance to Governors as part of the Quality Assessment Framework for Wales.
Working closely with the Director of Learning Enhancement and Head of Quality Enhancement, lead the preparation for external reviews and audits.
Contribute to the effective working of the University Academic Quality and Standards Committee. Present to the Academic Quality and Standards Committee regular reports in regard to the Quality Assessment Framework for Wales and other external reference points, making recommendations to the Committee as required and ensuring that any recommendations or actions that are agreed are completed.
Oversee and lead regular and rigorous mapping of the University’s systems, processes and procedures against external reference points and advise the Head of Quality Enhancement and Quality Enhancement Directorate on any issues to be addressed.
Act as a point of contact for Schools and oversee guidance in terms PSRB approval/accreditation.
Lead on the co- ordination, collation and drafting of various internal audit and monitoring reports and QED approach to Welsh Language Standards, in particular periodic compliance returns. Working with the Collaborative Provision Specialist, lead on periodic updates to the University’s Risk Register.

Initial degree or equivalent qualification
Evidence of continuous professional development
Expert knowledge of a range of quality systems relevant to home-based and collaborative provision
Significant knowledge of the UK HE regulatory landscape
Relevant and current knowledge of strategic issues in HE that may affect the quality agenda
Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to lead, motivate and advise effectively to secure stakeholder engagement and consensus regarding process or policy development.
Ability to write analytical and focused reports and to contribute to debate on quality assessment issues
Ability to lead, contribute to and function effectively in boards and committees
Ability to provide creative and effective solutions to complex problems.
Experience of leading external review or audit processes
Experience of leading, or contributing to organisation change
Experience of collating and analysing data ensuring key messages are reported.
Willingness to undergo further development and training as required
Willingness to undertake UK travel
