The opportunity
To provide front line support to international students and graduates accessing the Careers Service helping them to develop their employability skills via one-to-one appointments and group workshops.
To deal with incoming enquiries to the Careers Service by email, phone and in person, responding or referring on as appropriate.
To assist International students and graduates looking for support with a variety of employability-related subjects via short bookable appointments and drop-in sessions in line with agreed standards and referring onto Careers Consultants for further support as and when required.
To record all appointment notes in the student record system and communicate actions to students after every appointment in line with agreed processes.
To participate in the development and delivery of group sessions and generic skills workshops, including CV writing, LinkedIn, application forms and job-searching techniques.
To create and develop physical and online resources that promote the Careers Service and support international students and graduates with their career development.
To undertake project work on a regular basis as directed by the line manager and Careers Team Manager.
What we are looking for
Degree educated or relevant professional qualification OR relevant professional experience to an equivalent level
Understanding of the challenges faced by today’s graduates in the labour market.
Understanding of the challenges faced by international students in developing employability skills and securing work opportunities in the UK
Appreciation of the role of the Careers Service within HE
Understanding of the uses of social media in developing and maintaining client relationships
Verbal communication skills – able to liaise and negotiate confidently with colleagues and clients including academic staff, employers and students
Written communication skills – accurate spelling and grammar
Computer literate and competent in use of full Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to manage information using a variety of paper based and electronic media
Ability to plan and organise own work to meet required targets and deadlines.
A commitment to maintaining excellent standards of customer service
A professional approach to work and working relationships
A friendly and open approach to clients and stakeholders
A positive mind-set with a can-do approach to problem-solving
Experience in a customer-facing advisory role
Experience of working to agreed targets and tight deadlines
Experience of using social media platforms
