The opportunity

This is a key post that will contribute to the ambitions of the University’s Strategic Plan 2030, which emphasizes continuing best practice in ensuring outstanding student experience by supporting the development of staff in active, inclusive teaching and learning that focuses on authentic and meaningful experiences.

As a Senior Learning Developer you will play an integral part in shaping the University’s academic development provision, leading and supporting varied projects and work-streams. You will be an enthusiastic, professional, positive and creative individual, with excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills. You will share your commitment to supporting the University in the provision of an excellent student experience through the development of resources, training, research, and your insights into the pedagogy and practice of teaching and learning. You will provide expert, creative pedagogical advice and be responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of solutions to support staff in having the requisite skills and resources to provide outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment.

Day to day duties will relate to contributing to our academic and professional development programmes, providing ongoing guidance and support to colleagues in developing their teaching, learning, and assessment, and support the work of the QED in implementing the University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy.

What we are looking for

Educated to degree level or equivalent.

Completion of a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning or equivalent

A relevant post-graduate qualification or award.

Familiarity with general theories of learning and teaching

Familiarity with curriculum design models

An understanding of the variety in modes of assessment and feedback

Experience of using a wide range of learning environments – both physical and virtual – that emphasize active and authentic learning

Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills

The ability to lead by example, and to inspire and develop an energetic and pro-active team is essential.

Previous experience of teaching students in a higher education context

Previous experience supporting academic staff in their development of learning and teaching strategies

Experience of working with VLEs in the higher education context

Experience of evaluation and analysis of data in a higher education context.

Experience in presenting internally and externally, contributing to external and professional networks, and taking an active role in your own personal development.

The ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines with a minimum of supervision.

A willingness to be flexible and stay up-to-date in an area that is constantly changing.
