Could you help us to develop policies which enable more people to benefit from post-16 education and training in Wales? Are you interested in ensuring that post-16 education and training, including further and higher education, opportunities are widely accessible to people from a diverse range of backgrounds?
We are looking for a Widening Access and Transitions Manager to work with us to regulate and support the post-16 education sector in Wales to widen access to and through further and higher education, training and lifelong learning. Widening access regulation and policy supports people under-represented in post-16 education to enter and succeed in their studies and beyond, regardless of their background. Our policies cover staff and students in post-16 education and training and research. You will also be involved in work on regulation and policies related to equality of opportunity, admissions, student welfare, retention, lifelong learning, and the relationship between higher and further education and training, while policy areas covered by the team also include supporting equality and diversity, well-being and health, and ensuring equality is at the heart of all we do as an organisation.
We are looking for an individual with strong analytical and problem solving skills, who can communicate effectively in a variety of ways appropriate to the audience. The role involves working collaboratively as part of our Widening Access and Inclusion Team as well as making links across the organisation, and with external partners, where there are connections to our work including in the areas of the student experience, student engagement, employability and civic mission, research, part-time education and lifelong learning.
Experience of policy development and delivery in a post-16 context, is essential, ideally within a further or higher education environment. The purpose of the policy role will enable our organisation to regulate and support post-16 education and training providers to improve the study, work employability and lives of students and staff in post-16 education, this post does not work directly with learners or students. It is not an operational role delivering learning activities.
You will lead the development, implementation and review of policy in areas relating to widening access and student transitions to and through post-16 education and training, and will manage relationships with some of our key partners. You will monitor and review reports and plans submitted to us, support committees and produce papers and briefings. You will be organised, able to prioritise a diverse portfolio of work and progress it reliably, sometimes against the pressures of time. The ability to communicate bilingually in Welsh and English is desirable.
