Jonathan Rees is a clinical academic based at the University of Edinburgh, where he holds the Grant Chair of Dermatology. His research includes skin cancer genetics, the response of skin to UVR, and most notably, the identification of the gene for red hair and sun sensitivity (and hence the evolution of human pigmentation). Over the last 10 years his research on automated and semi-automated methods of skin cancer diagnosis has led to an interest in how we teach — and hence how students learn — and how we can use technology to improve and change the way we educate doctors.
